WWOOFing: week 2; only good things

Helllooooooo! I cannot believe it has already been a week! Such wonderful things have happened!

So we have now moved to a macadamia nut farm in Naalehu! It is owned by Elizabeth Jenkins and her husband, Barney, who are famous for their delicious unsalted, dehydrated macnuts! Guess who gets to take part in the whole process? Yup, me and Sophie.
They also sell macnut butter, macnut honey, raw macnuts, as well as citrus, bananas, coffee and avocados.

This is a perfect and awesome opportunity to have a hands-on experience working with a business product from tree-to-customer using sustainable practices the whole time!

They work with nature, not against it, which is conducive to a happy farm and customer. The nuts are seriously so delicious, so if you are travelling between the 67 and 68 mile marker on highway 11 in Hawaii stop by! That is, if they aren't sold out!

When we weren't arms-deep in macnuts, we explored the area. This is the famous green sand beach, located at the southernmost point of the U.S.! Three mile hike through a tropical desert from the end of south point road. It looks green, but up close its like gold.

All thanks to the boys for showing us this cool spot and making sure we didn't get lost

The end of south point road is literally a 40 foot cliff that drops off into crystal clear blue water. The trick is to not think and just...

Jump!

But be careful and NEVER underestimate the power of the ocean.

And of course the black sand beaches! Nothing can compare to the feeling of laying in crumbled volcano! These line the island and, although it cloudy 80% of the time here, we still make it a priority to lay in blackness and look for turtles popping their heads up

You must be wondering how have gone all these places? How could we be living in the middle of lush rainforest and still get around?

Hitchhiking. Thank God it's not illegal here.

We also live/WWOOF with an Austrian couple who has fed us and been such Angels to us when we lost-dogged our way into this place. They show us the ropes, make us coffee in the morning, and, oh yeah,... Train us in the art of housewives.

What says marriage-ready more than being able to farm AND bake bread?
Probably a lot of things. But if we have something other than quesadillas to eat, then I'm all about sticking my hands in dough.

If your man is unhappy with your bread-baking skills then message me for the recipe! If not, because your gluten-free or for some reason don't like bread, then I feel sorry for you. No bread for you!

Anyways... Happy fourth day of July from us to you! I hope you had a great time pretending like we don't live in a year where the number of police killings are equal to the amount during the Jim Crow era.
Oops did I say that?

If you want to find out how weird the rest of that day was or about anything at all feel free to ask!

Aloha!!!
